Well, well, here it is Monday afternoon in St. Louis and I’m only now getting something posted to CCB. Hey, I’ve been busy people! It was a busy weekend here at the Southern Living suite, but I’m not even going to go into that. Nope. Let’s cut straight to the chase…we’re doomed. Did you watch that fiasco Sunday night? I didn’t actually go. The virginal vegan Brooklynn Hodensack and I just stayed in the suite watching seven different channels’ coverage. The eighth television, I kept tuned to a Gilligan’s Island marathon on some obscure local channel. It helped me keep my sanity. The virginal vegan kept yelling at me when I would turn the volume of all of the other TVs down in favor of listening the Skipper call Gilligan his ‘little buddy’. That always got her going with the “How are you going to write about this if you aren’t listening?” and my all-time favorite of “Are you writing yet? You should be writing. It will put you that much further ahead of the game!” I no sooner got to St. Louis than I was hearing reports that the GOP was calling for dropping the Trump from the ballot. That was followed by Wonder Bread Ryan announcing he was done defending the Trump following the so-called leak of the “lewd” tape at the center of the Trump’s latest scandal. Judas priest, GOP, things have gone a little far for dropping him from the ballot don’t you think? The election is less than a month away! Also, Ryan’s comments were intended as damage control to help ensure the GOP will maintain its majority in the Congress. In the meantime, the Trump hours before the debate went on the offensive, lining up Clinton the First’s sordid past at a press conference and then throwing that burning bag of dog crap into the center of the debate stage. Nicely played. Really, nicely played. Frankly, I’m sick of the whole thing. Seriously, we’re screwed. This isn’t about the lesser of two evils. I’m not sure what it is. The Trump is a loathsome, looney-tunes, egotistical, narcissistic megalomaniac bent on becoming America’s first benevolent dictator. Would we be any better off with the Queen of the Unindicted? Nope. She’s as slippery as that bad-boy husband of hers. But, is she on a par with the Trump? Nope. Hers is more an issue of ethics (or, lack thereof) and arrogance. I CAN’T GET PAST the email thing. If you’ve never handled classified material entrusted to you by the U.S. Government, you likely don’t understand why it’s a big deal. She knew the rules. She didn’t play by them. If it were your military son or daughter and they did something similar, they’d being doing time in a federal prison. In a previous post, soon after the Trump won the party nomination, I made the statement that the Republican Party was getting what it deserved. That promises made by the GOP were coming due from the middle to lower classes in this nation that blindly followed Republican rhetoric about how the party would turn things around. The same blind followers revolted, throwing their weight behind a candidate, outside the party elite, that told them exactly what they wanted to hear. As for the Democrats…you people lost your way following Clinton the First’s regime. The first evidence of that came when you tried to throw Al Gore to the front of the line, only to have things come down to hand counting ballots and determining what was/was not a hanging chad. After George W., dragged us into two wars (one of which we now know they lied to us about) that have dragged on now for more than a decade, people were looking for change…any change. The Dems managed to get Obama in office. It was the timing…an economy floating in the toilet…a war-weary populace…I’m not sure a GOP candidate could have won no matter how clean he/she was. Do I have the answer? No. I have no idea what I’m going to do on November 8. This is an embarrassment. I suppose I could leave the presidential part of the ballot blank, but in Oklahoma I think that may render the remainder of the ballot void. And, I DO have firm convictions regarding updating this state’s antiquated alcohol laws. Eh, I’m off for Colorado now. I’ve passed my final analysis (such that it is) of the debate last night to the editorial staff at Southern Living. Have a 13-hour drive to get to Montezuma from here and will likely drive through the night. The next debate is set for October 19 and will be held in Vegas Baby! At least it has that going for it.
